Tour Recap Part III: Cleveland

Hello Cleveland!

For the third city on tour, we headed back to my college town.  I graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 2006.  Classes were difficult there, and I spent most of my time studying, but I still managed to make some really great friends.  It was my first time back to Cleveland in a while, and a lot of my friends were still there, and they came out to the show.  I needed Cleveland at this point in the tour, I was getting tired of dragging the gear around and needed some rest.  Justus picked us up after the 17-hour bus excursion from Boston, and I spent a good part of the next day asleep, then borrowed Justus’ car to visit my Uncle Tom and his family, then came back and had band practice for the first full band show on the tour, and our first time playing together: Justus Brake on bass, Danny O’Brien on Banjo/Mandolin, and Laura Simna on violin.  Near the end of practice we started goofing around with the first song on my album, I Didn’t Mind, and Justus said, “Let’s record something.”  I fired up the computer, we gathered around a microphone, and here’s what happened:

I’ve never done any bluegrass style songs, but I hope to record with them again at some point, it was too much fun. Friday night, with a practice under our belts and an audience full of old friends, we were ready:

After touring from Houston to NYC and sharing the stage with musicians like the Heartless Bastards, Diane Birch and Davy Knowles, Karnavas opened for Trombone Shorty at SXSW 2011 for PBS. His new children’s music project, AndyRoo and the AndyRooniverse, has been featured by Radio Disney and the Children's Museum of Houston; and he recently performed it at the audience record-breaking Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo 2011.
